Protect and expand meaningful ways for residents, families, visitors, and anglers to reach and enjoy the water.

Advance practical improvements to water quality, habitat, resilience, and the places where land meets the harbor.

Decisions answerable to the public
Insist that the boards and agencies shaping our shoreline follow environmental and land-use law—and answer for the long consequences of their votes.
Who we are
A volunteer group rooted in Port Washington.
Save Open Shores Port Washington is a volunteer, community-led organization formed by people who live near, use, and care about Port Washington’s waterfront.
We are residents and shoreline neighbors, families, boaters, anglers, environmental advocates, and local business owners. No one here does this professionally. We give our own time because the shoreline is part neighborhood, part habitat, part public gathering place, and part working waterfront—and decisions made along it shape daily life far beyond any single property line.
SOS PW took shape in the summer of 2026, as significant shoreline decisions moved quickly and neighbors began comparing notes: attending hearings, reading the public record, and asking how the pieces fit together. Those conversations grew into an organization—a durable way for the community to stay informed, find common ground, and speak clearly when it matters. We are building it to last, with real governance and room for people who disagree.

SOS PW is meant to connect people who encounter the waterfront in different ways. You do not need to be an expert—or agree on every issue—to bring useful knowledge and a stake in the outcome.
